Dyslexia Association of Sarawak



  • A small group of parents and education officers set up a protem committee in Kuching in 2005.



  • In April 2007, DASwk was registered with the Registrar of Societies with almost 60 members.

  • It first rented a first-floor shop lot in Jalan Kedandi, Tabuan Dusun as its centre where it ran assessment sessions and had volunteers from students of SMK St Teresa during weekends to teach children and one young adult (26 years old).


  • From 2009 until present, the state government allowed DASwk to use a building in Jalan Maxwell as its learning and resource centre. DASwk then had full-time staff as administrative assistant and teachers.

  • At this centre, DASwk offers the following services:

    • 3-month intervention program from 8.00am-12.30pm, daily from Mondays-Fridays.

    • Tuition program from 2.00-4.30pm, once or twice weekly.

    • Assessment sessions.

    • Counselling sessions.

    • Platform for outreach programs by universities or other corporate agencies.

    • Workshops on dyslexia, SMARTER*phonics and foniks*PINTAR for parents and teachers.

    • Literacy activities for children and young adults with dyslexia and other learning disabilities.



  • Awarded the most active NGO in Sarawak by the State Social Welfare Department.
